Who to Watch in the '08.

Fallen on September

A fresh new face in the music scene, FO9 has their '08 agenda ready. They are in the process of launching an official website, recording a full length album or an EP, booking shows outside of Laredo, and maybe a full tour by this summer. They also intend to discover a cure for African Horse sickness and win the Nobel Peace Prize in the area of medicine among other things. Ambitious!

Mountain Fire

Now that MIV is officially on an indefinite hiatus, three-fourths of the band have decided to spend their downtime writing indie tunes. Ralph Guajardo, Paul Davila, and Ricky Luna are excited about branching out and exploring a different sound than what they originally produced in Milk. Although they haven??????t penned a single song, you can expect quality music, especially coming from remnants of one of Laredo’s most original bands.

Radio Star Entertainment

No stranger to working with big name acts (Molotov, A New Found Glory, Flickerstick), Radio Star Founder Joseph Garcia is planning a year full of exciting live shows, including Laredo’s next big music festival, The Calico Festival.

The Pop Rocks

Brothers Poncho and Alex Santos, also known as pop-culture obsessed DJ duo The Pop Rocks had an an amazing year, serving as an opening act for bands such as Supaphat, Black Tie Dynasty, Girl in a Coma, and Mickey Avalon. Look for the self-proclaimed "portable DJ's" to expand the Pop Rocks entity to include design, t-shirts, parties and more good times.

Hello, Stranger

Looks like Hello, Stranger is taking a cue from MIV's '06 banner year. The band, together since summer, have had a similar tactic in getting their name out... Play as many shows as possible, and promote, promote, promote! Its paying off. With every show they play, their fanbase grows more and more. Catch their blend of "hardcore southern rock metal" at one of their many shows (5 shows in January so far), and look out for their demo, due out this month.

The Death Head

Laredo-native Death is causing quite a stir in H-town these days. The face-paint clad punk artist has been leaving his unique "art up for grabs" in the streets of Houston, all the while making celebrity friends ( The Bravery, Shepard Fairey, etc.). At the moment, he is working on his clothing line, due out later this year.

Murdocks

It's hard to imagine a band starting a love affair with our city when their first show in Laredo consisted of flooded streets and a 10-person crowd. Such was the case with pop-grunge rockers Murdocks. They perfromed here twice more throughout the year, gaining fans little by little with their catchy scream-along songs. Check out the Austin-based group and their loud-as-hell show, as they plan to make more cameos in Laredo in the '08.

Vincent Moreno

With two films under his belt ( "The Cruiser", "Mankind's Odyssey"), the 25 year-old filmmaker walked away from the 3rd Annual Sound Experimental Film Festival with the Audience Choice Award for his film "Requiem for Sweep". The film centers around a woman on an alcoholic binge and a dark hooded reaper played by Jorge Garcia. Visually stunning, "Requiem" is Moreno's best work yet. We can't wait to see what he has in store for this year's festival.
